PC Workshop took a call from a local business with a system that refused to start operating, it was simply going round in circles as they tried all the different methods to remedy the situation.
This type of work really needs to be carried out back at our workshop as the time involved in testing the hard drive alone can run into a couple of hours, they decided to bring their system in to us for as always the urgency of the situation was paramount to the company operation.
PC Workshop understands how vital the computer systems are to the smooth running of everyday lives and even more so when a companies database and production charts are not only precious but virtually impossible to replace.
A crash (or system crash) in computing is an event in which a computer or a program (such as a software application or an operating system) ceases to function properly, often exiting after encountering errors. Sometimes the offending program may appear to freeze or hang until a crash reporting service documents details of the crash. If the program is a critical part of the operating system kernel, the entire computer may crash, possibly resulting in a fatal system error.
PC Workshop removed the hard drive and then ran our usual batch of tests to determine the exact nature of the problem, which proved to be the actual hard drive itself, which for a lot of IT shops means a total loss of work etc. here at PC Workshop however we can also perform data recovery from a number of failed data receptacles (USB, External hard drives etc).
PC Workshop fitted a new hard drive to the computer and set about reinstalling all the windows operating system along with all the necessary drivers while our dedicated data recovery computer was restoring the lost data to our networked back up system, this can take quite a while to complete, obviously dependent on the amount of data held and just how corrupted it has become (not helped by the number of restarts they had tried before contacting us!).
They collected the fully functional computer from us at 7.30pm (we’re very flexible with time) so they would be up and running the following day. The added bonus was the speed that came along with having a fresh installation coupled with a new hard drive.
Truly relieved not to have lost any work or data plus “its like a new machine” was just one of the comments that came out when they collected it.
PC Workshop also installed a secondary drive and automatic back up system so this frightening scenario will be a thing of the past for this company.
